Oregon ASTA Summer Scholarship
financial aid for summer music camp study

The Oregon Chapter of the American String Teachers Association (OR-ASTA) is currently accepting applications for summer music camp scholarships. This is a need and merit based application open to string students of all levels, through 12th grade as of the 2025-26 school year. Applicants must be studying with a teacher who is an ASTA member.

The scholarship is intended to be used for attendance at a summer program that specifically emphasizes music study. The amount of the scholarship ranges from $100 to $400 per student.

APPLICATION DEADLINE is March 1st, 2026. Applicants will receive scholarship notifications by March 15th.
The application process requires applicants to provide: (a) a short essay, (b) a short video recorded performance, and (c) a letter of recommendation submitted by their teacher.

GUIDELINES FOR ESSAY
The essay is two paragraphs long. In the first paragraph student should provide a short biography including full name, age, instrument played, years of study, any/all musical accomplishments. Student should describe the circumstances that are prompting them to apply for this need-based scholarship. In the second paragraph student should explain which music programs they are planning to attend in summer 2026.

GUIDELINES FOR VIDEO RECORDED PERFORMANCE
Performance should be three to ten minutes long and may be from a recital or a video made for this application. The video should show from the student's waist up while playing (full length also okay). Piano accompaniment is desirable, but not necessary. The recording must be uploaded to YouTube as an "unlisted video." The link to the video must be uploaded in the space provided in this application.

GUIDELINES FOR LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
The teacher should briefly reflect on student's musical merits, any contributions to their community, and should explain the financial needs of the student through their perspective. If possible, please give examples of need. Teachers must submit a letter of recommendation via email by March 1st.

To be considered for a scholarship, the student/family needs to fill out the application linked below. You will be asked to submit a link to a video recording via an unlisted YouTube link, and the student needs to submit an essay as part of the application.
