About the Event

Note: This is to purchase access to a recording of the previously held class

Our instrument is an extension of our entire body. Finding more freedom and quality in how we move can improve how we play in so many ways. The Feldenkrais Method® is a powerful means to experience and align the connections throughout our body. As we connect our our hands, arms and shoulders to the rest of us, we begin to find more stability, strength and resonance so that we can let go of any extra tension that gets in the way of playing at our best.

This class is a perfect introduction to Feldenkrais for string players. Taught by Colin Pip Dixon (Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and an actively performing violinist) who has been teaching workshops to musicians for the past 15 years in both the US and Europe and at the ASTA National conference for the past three years.

COLIN PIP DIXON (GCFP)

Colin Pip Dixon is both an active musician (violinist & composer) as well as being a Feldenkrais practitioner. He was born and raised in New York City, lived in Paris, France for 14 years and currently resides in Eugene, Oregon. Colin has been giving Feldenkrais workshops for musicians since 2007 in both the US and in Europe as well as giving individual sessions and teaching Feldenkrais to the general public. Since the beginning of the pandemic he has been teaching Feldenkrais workshops for musicians weekly at www.Virtuostiy.Online. For the past three years he was invited to present the Feldenkrais Method at the ASTA National Conferences (American String Teachers Association) . He has worked with Graduate and Undergraduate music students at Stony Brook University, the University of Oregon, Pacific University and has taught music students from Juilliard, the Paris Conservatory, CUNY Graduate Center, Manhattan School of Music, among others. He was on the staff at the West End Fitness Health Club in New York City to teach Feldenkrais to the general public and has taught frequently at Eugene Yoga in Oregon. He first encountered the Feldenkrais Method® in 1998 during his violin studies in France. He immediately felt the strong effect of the work on his playing and did his Professional Training Program from January 2004 – November 2007 under the direction of Myriam Pfeffer and Paul Newton. The effects of this training were revolutionary for Colin both as a musician and as a human being and confirmed the necessity for him to teach and share this work with others. After finishing his professional training, he continued to deepen his experience of the Method through advanced trainings both as a student and often as an interpreter (English/French) for many prominent trainers. As a musician he is a performing member and co-artistic director of The Elsewhere Ensemble (www.ElsewhereEnsemble.com) and has performed with them in the US, Europe, Canada and the Middle East. He also performs regularly with the Eugene Symphony and other chamber groups in Oregon.
