
OR-ASTA Solo Competition
The last ORASTA Solo Competition was held in 2018 with the help of our co-sponsor, Portland State University.
Information is below for this past event:
10 Finalists in each division were invited to participate in the LIVE Finals on November 18, 2018 at Portland State University.

ORASTA Solo Competition Guidelines
How It Works:

The Preliminary Round will be completed via electronic submission. Applications will be accepted through October 21, 2018, at 11:59pm.

Finalists will be notified by November 1, 2018.
Ten finalists in each division will be invited to perform in the final round of competition on Sunday, November 18, 2018. This is a public performance. Awards will be announced at the conclusion of each division.
Rules:
Instrumental categories are Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Classical Guitar
Participant must reside or study in Oregon with the exception of students who study with ORASTA members in southwest WA.
$40 Non-refundable application fee for students of ASTA Members or ASTA Student Members
$100 fee for Non-members (to get the member rate, Join ASTA today!)

For the discounted entrance fee, ASTA membership number or instructor’s number must be included on the registration form

Age Requirements:

Junior – 15 and under, on or before 11/1/2018

Senior – age 16-22 on or before 11/1/2018

Repertoire is to be selected from the standard or new music classical literature matching your particular instrument. Complete works or complete single movements from works will be required of all entrants. Memorization is not required, but is strongly encouraged.

Junior Competition: Solo must not exceed 10 minutes

Senior Competition: Solo must not exceed 15 minutes

Piano accompaniment is strongly suggested for the recording if the work calls for it. The cutting of lengthy piano tutti sections is also encouraged.

Finalists will compete against other finalists regardless of instrument.

If a Finalist cannot be present at the Competition, an alternate will be chosen from the Pre-screening round.

A panel of distinguished musicians will serve as judges for the competition and will be announced prior to the LIVE auditions.
